Style guide
Converted title
Simplified implementations of the published guides: minor words (articles, short prepositions, conjunctions) stay lowercase except at the start, end, or after a colon, following each guide own length rule.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between APA and Chicago title case?
Both capitalize the first and last words, but APA capitalizes any word of four or more letters (so "Over" is capitalized), while Chicago lowercases all prepositions regardless of length (so "over" stays lowercase). This tool applies each guide own rule.
Are these the complete official rules?
They are faithful simplifications of the published guides, covering the minor-word rules that cause 95 percent of confusion. For a thesis or publication, always check the latest edition of the manual.
Does it handle words after a colon?
Yes. In APA, Chicago and MLA modes the first word after a colon, question mark or exclamation mark is capitalized, matching the guides.
