What does this sitemap validator check?
It checks that the XML is well-formed, the root is urlset or sitemapindex, every entry has a loc, all locs are absolute http(s) URLs, lastmod values are valid dates, changefreq and priority are in range, and there are no duplicate URLs.
Why did fetching my sitemap URL fail?
Most servers do not allow cross-site reads from a browser, so the fetch is blocked by the browser's security rules even when the sitemap works fine. This is not a sitemap error. Open the sitemap in your browser, copy the XML, and paste it into the Paste tab for the full check.
What are the most common sitemap errors?
Broken XML from a bad plugin, relative URLs like /about instead of full https:// URLs, invalid dates in lastmod, priority values outside 0.0 to 1.0, and duplicate URLs. All of these are flagged by this tool with the exact entry number.
