Paste two SHA-512 hashes to check whether they match, for example a computed hash and a published one.
Powered by your browser's Web Crypto API (crypto.subtle.digest), the same SHA-512 your operating system uses. Requires a secure context (HTTPS), which this page has. Nothing is uploaded: hashing happens locally on your device.
Frequently asked questions
Is my text or file uploaded anywhere?
No. Hashing runs in your browser using the Web Crypto API built into every modern browser. Your data never leaves your device.
Why does it need HTTPS?
Browsers only expose crypto.subtle in secure contexts (HTTPS or localhost) as a security rule. This page is served over HTTPS, so it works. On a plain HTTP page the tool would refuse to run rather than fake a hash.
SHA-512 vs MD5: which should I use?
SHA-512 for anything security related: passwords (with a proper KDF), signatures, and integrity where attackers exist. MD5 is only fine for non-security checksums. We offer both as separate tools.
