Frequently asked questions
What is a BOM?
The byte order mark (U+FEFF) is an invisible character some editors add at the very start of UTF-8 files. It can break JSON parsers, CSV imports and scripts that expect clean text.
Is my uploaded file sent anywhere?
No. The file is read locally with the FileReader API and never leaves your browser. The cleaned download is generated on your device.
How do I know a BOM was there?
You cannot see it, which is the problem. This tool checks the first character code directly and tells you clearly whether one was found and removed.
