Frequently asked questions
What is the locally administered bit?
The second-least-significant bit of the first MAC byte marks an address as locally administered instead of globally unique. Enabling the toggle sets this bit (the second hex digit becomes 2, 6, A or E), which is the correct practice for randomly generated MACs.
Why is the multicast bit always cleared?
Real device MAC addresses are unicast addresses, so the generator always clears the multicast bit (the least significant bit of the first byte). This keeps every generated address valid for device use.
How do I use a vendor OUI prefix?
Type the first three bytes of a vendor prefix, for example AA:BB:CC, and the generator keeps those bytes fixed while randomizing the rest. The tool validates the prefix before generating.
