Frequently asked questions
What are CRLF, LF and CR?
They are different ways to mark a line break: CRLF on Windows, LF on Unix, Linux and modern macOS, and CR on classic Mac OS.
Why do line endings cause problems?
Scripts moved between Windows and Linux can fail, diffs look noisy, and some tools misread files. Converting to the target system's style fixes it.
What happens with mixed line endings?
The detector counts each style separately, then everything is normalized and rewritten in your chosen style, so the output is fully consistent.
