What does escaping a string for JSON mean?
Quotes, backslashes, newlines and other control characters get converted to JSON escape sequences like \n and \u2603, so the text can sit safely inside a JSON value without breaking the syntax.
Why does unescape sometimes show an error?
Unescape expects a valid JSON string body, for example with quotes written as \" and newlines as \n. A lone backslash or an invalid sequence like \x cannot be parsed, and the tool tells you exactly why.
