Frequently asked questions
What is Base58?
An encoding that drops easily confused characters (0, O, I, l). Bitcoin uses it for wallet addresses, which is why it is called the Bitcoin alphabet.
Why do leading zeros become the character 1?
That is part of the Base58 spec: each leading zero byte is preserved as a leading 1, so no data is lost in the round trip.
Is my input sent anywhere?
No. All conversion happens locally in your browser with plain JavaScript.
